DESCRIPTION:FIRfest 2025\nSaturday\, November 15\, 2025 \n9:00 am – 12:00 pm \nWhittier Park – 901 Contra Costa Ave\, Fircrest \nCome get your FREE TREE!* \nWe’ll have FIVE different varieties: Douglas-Firs\, Ponderosa pines\, Quaking aspen\, Netleaf hackberry and Giant sequoia. \nWe’ll also have a work party to preserve our green space at Whittier Park. Sign up to help! Pierce Conservation District will lead the work party. To register for the work party scan the QR code on the poster or follow this link:** \nhttps://zfrmz.com/nqG1e6TziIxchaCtpZvn \n* reservation is NOT required to pick up a tree.\n** reservation is required to participate in the work party. \nHere are some FUN FACTS about the trees we are giving away at the event! \n\nDouglas-firs are not fir trees\, or spruce or hemlock\, it is its own special type of tree with only a few species found in North America and Asia.\nThe bark of ponderosa pine has a unique smell that resembles butterscotch.\nNetleaf hackberry is small and gnarly in stature but tough in nature! Once established it can handle heat\, drought\, and strong winds.\nThe slightest breeze will cause the leaves of quaking aspen to tremble\, in the fall it looks like fluttering gold.\nAlthough giant sequoias are long lived and get very large very quick\, they are an endangered species. If you have a big space and big heart\, this big tree might be for you!\n\nThe Kiwanis Club of Fircrest will also be onsite serving up some hot drinks! \nThank you Pierce County Parks\, Pierce Conservation District and Kiwanis Club of Fircrest for your partnership! \nSee you at the Park!
