Upcycle a Jean Jacket

Program Type: Adult Activities
Age(s): 18+
Fee: Residents $45 | Non Residents $55
Instructor: Elisa Peterson

Saturday October 15th

Create your own unique denim jean jacket.

We will spend four hours together assembling and making patches, choosing unique stamps and fabrics, and sewing them onto jackets that will reflect our individuality.

You may want to start gathering patches, heat transfer quotes or photos. Anything goes. If you have old bits of fabric that have sentimental memories attached, let’s make a patch out of it.

Start thinking about what you want on your jacket.

Elisa will bring fabric remnants to make patches. She will demonstrate simple Boro stitching (slow stitching) and how to create one-of-a-kind collaged fabric patches.

Etsy has many shops that sell patches. Think Peace symbols, women power, Mom, gardener, musician, artist, spiritual or religious symbols….you choose. We will use several methods of attaching things: gluing, machine stitching, and slow stitching. If you don’t know how to use a sewing machine, don’t worry: there are other ways and/or…I will show you how

If you don’t have a jean jacket, shop at 2nd hand shops for one. Old Navy also has good ones that you can order online.

I will provide fabrics for patches, fabric glue, thread, needles, stamps, trims, embroidery floss, fusible web, and a sewing machine.

All you need to bring is a jean jacket and any special bits you want to use. If you have a portable sewing machine, you can bring that.

Bring a snack and a drink.

As we work together, we will inspire each other, and our jackets will be amazing.
