Fircrest Welcomes Back Familiar Face as New Police Chief

The City of Fircrest is pleased to announce the selection of Victor Celis as the City’s next Chief of Police.  City Manager Dawn Masko extended an offer of employment earlier today, which Mr. Celis officially accepted.  He will assume his new role on July 1, 2025.

“Selecting our next Police Chief was a difficult decision, as all of the finalists were outstanding candidates with distinct strengths,” said City Manager Masko.  “After a thorough process and careful consideration, I am confident that Victor Celis is the right person to lead our Police Department forward.  He brings a unique combination of strong community engagement and operational expertise that reflects the best of our past leadership.”

Mr. Celis brings 28 years of diverse law enforcement experience, including current service with the Tacoma Police Department.  His career includes prior roles as Sergeant with the Fircrest Police Department and Police Chief for the City of Ruston. He began his public safety career as a Police/Fire Dispatcher with Valley Communications and served as a Reserve Deputy with the King County Sheriff’s Office.  A United States Navy veteran, Mr. Celis holds an associate degree from Shoreline Community College and has completed FBI Leadership training.

His selection follows a rigorous hiring process that included a community forum and a series of interviews with multiple panels comprised of City leadership, law enforcement professionals, and community stakeholders.  The community’s positive regard for Mr. Celis, his previous service in Fircrest, and his extensive experience all contributed to his selection.

“Victor represents a thoughtful blend of leadership styles,” said City Manager Masko.  “He will continue the legacy of community connection and outreach built by former Chief Cheesman, while building on the organizational and operational focus established under former Chief Schaub.  His return to Fircrest is both a homecoming and a new chapter – and I believe he will leave a lasting, positive impact on our community.”
