Public Works continues to coordinate closely with the contractor and project stakeholders on the ongoing improvements associated with the Whittier Elementary School project. As part of the next phase of construction, installation of two critical stormwater structures is scheduled to begin next week on Alameda Avenue.

To safely accommodate this work, a temporary daytime road closure on Alameda Avenue will begin on Monday July 6th, and is expected to remain in place during active construction hours from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The contractor is targeting completion of this work before the end of the week, barring unforeseen construction delays, utility conflicts, or weather-related impacts.

A signed detour route will be implemented during closure hours to safely redirect motorists around the work zone and maintain traffic flow through the surrounding area. The contractor’s temporary Traffic Control Plan (TCP) is attached for reference and outlines the planned closure limits, detour routing, and traffic control measures that will be in place throughout construction.

Completion of this stormwater structure installation represents a significant milestone for the project and is expected to greatly accelerate progress on the Alameda Avenue stormwater improvements. By completing this critical infrastructure work in a concentrated timeframe, the project team anticipates improved construction efficiency, reduced overall disruption, and a more streamlined path toward completion of the remaining stormwater and roadway improvements.
