City Seeks Volunteers for EMS Levy “For” and “Against” Committees

On March 24, the City Council authorized placing a 6-year Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Levy on the August 4 primary ballot. The renewal EMS levy would reset the levy rate at $.50 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.

The City is seeking volunteers to serve on committees to write the official “For” and “Against” statements for the voters’ pamphlet. Committee members should be available to work together to draft these statements. Based on deadlines set by the Pierce County Auditor’s Office, statements are due to Pierce County Elections by May 1, 2026. Each committee can consist of up to 3 members, but may also seek the advice of other individuals.

Those interested in serving on either committee are encouraged to submit their interest by 5:00 PM on Friday, April 17, by contacting City Clerk Arlette Burkhart at aburkhart@cityoffircrest.net or by phone at 253-238-4128.

HISTORY:  Fircrest voters have approved EMS levies in 1991, 1996, 2002, 2008, 2014, and 2020.  At the August 4, 2020 Primary Election, Fircrest voters approved the EMS levy for the years 2021 through 2026 at a rate of $0.50 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation, with 75.61% voting in favor of the measure.  The current levy expires on December 31, 2026.
